HOW TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL LEADER - EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Who is a successful leader?

According to Myles Munroe, leadership is the capacity to influence others through inspiration and not manipulation.
A successful leader inspires loyalty and influence.
Leaders are important and so is leadership. Leadership begins with you.

- To be a successful leader you must know yourself, work on yourself and become the leader you want people to emulate.
Work and develop on your leadership tactics.
Discover your leadership style and ensure it lines up with the leadership of Jesus.
Jesus is and should be our example of a true and successful leader.
Successful leaders make Jesus their role model of life and leadership.

- Good leadership speak last. You hear people's views before you speak. Be an inspirational leader like Jesus.

- Make character the foundation of your life as a leader. The foundation of leadership is character. Character is a commitment to a set of value and standards without compromise or wavering. Character is self imposed discipline in keeping with moral convictions. It is ensuring your words, action and person agrees. You don't say one thing and you do another thing. Character is developed through pressure, temptation and resolve.

- Successful leaders focus on their strength and work on them, until they become masters. Your strength is supposed to feed you. Don't waste your life fixing what you cannot fix. Identify your gifts and work on it till it can feed you.

- Be a role model. Be that person everybody wants to be like. Live your life like you are being watched, just like a fish bowl that is transparent.
Do what you expect from others.
Model what you want. Set the example, gaining your respect from the team. Dress the way you want people to look. Whatever impact we make has remark on people.

- Be a person of integrity. Integrity is the most important, most required and most admired quality in a leader.
Not coming late and acting like you didn't. Integrity is apologizing and explaining why you came in late. The people must trust you as you also trust them to perform and respect you.

- Successful leaders radiate positive energy. Passion and enthusiasm will boost the people's morale and increase productivity. They must see that you are happy and excited about what you do.

- Successful leaders are proactive. It means taking responsibility for your life and actions. Focus on the right things and don't waste time. Don't blame anyone for anything. Nobody owes you anything.

- Delegate task completely and allow people to do what you have sent them to do. The best leadership is to make people be like you and better than you.
The success of a leader is when the people you are leading are better than you if possible.
A good and true leader makes people discover something special in themselves. What are people discovering under you about themselves?
Target some people and make them better. That should be your goal as a good leader.

- Successful leaders are decisive. Start with what you know and more ideas will come as you take charge. You don't have to make perfect decisions, just go on.

- Successful leaders are approachable. Good leaders appreciate feedback. People should give you feedback, receive it and learn from it. If people are afraid to criticize you, you are a bad leader. The people you are leading should be able to tell you things and you are to listen. Don't be defensive.

- Be accountable. Be answerable for something within your power and control. It means to be subject to giving an account or having the obligation to report, explain or justify something. People should be able to ask you questions and they should get answers. Your team mistake is your mistake and their success is your success.

- Successful leaders pray, read, are humble, are givers, are led by the spirit, they keep learning from mentors, they love people, they refer to God for guidance.

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE IN HAUSALAND - THE PROCESS AND RITES

The Hausa are one of the most congested ethnic groups in Africa. They are heterogeneous in nature but culturally homogeneous people. They reside mostly in the Northern part of the country known to them as ''Arewa'' which is translated as Northern Nigeria. They are primarily Muslims while few are Christians. Although a great number of people in this region speak the Hausa language, different tribes among them have their own unique dialects. The Hausa traditional marriage is not as time consuming or expensive like the Yoruba and Igbo traditional marriage rites. Unlike in other culture where you are allowed some kind of freedom with the opposite sex, a Hausa man and woman don't have such freedom and the only thing that will bring about sexual contact between them is marriage. The Na Gani Ina  is the first stage where the groom with his male friends and kinsmen visit the bride's family house to make their intention known. They also go along with gifts. The
