Bad breath which is medically known as halitosis can be caused by eating some certain kinds of food, poor sleeping or poor dental hygiene. Nothing ruins a morning like bad breath. Oftentimes you wonder where it comes from because you inevitably brush every night. Then why? Keep reading.
There are several facets that can bring about bad breath and also there are numerous ways to eliminate that bad morning breath for good.
PRACTICE MORE OF NOSE BREATHING THAN MOUTH BREATHING
Breathe from your diaphragm rather than from your chest area. Diaphragm is a primary muscle responsible for respiration or inhalation. It is the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. In other words, stop breathing through your mouth. Why?
Saliva production decreases while you sleep. Saliva is high in oxygen which kills bacteria. It helps break down food particles and removes them from your mouth when you swallow. If you are breathing through your mouth, you create a dry zone where bacteria will therefore blossom. Pragmatically, a closed mouth will be less unpleasant in the morning. Practice more of deep breathing exercises through your nose for this would help eliminate bad breath in the morning.
- FLOSS, BRUSH AND GARGLE WITH MOUTH WASH
Every night before bed, never forget to floss before you brush. Flossing removes plaque and food particles in places where toothbrush cannot easily reach. If you bleed when flossing your teeth, it should stop after some minutes but if it persists then go see your dentist; might be gum disease.
When brushing, be mindful so no morsel of food will be left behind because bacteria eats the leftovers and brings about that bad breath. The leftovers becomes bait for bacteria so it is important to brush thoroughly;after flossing. Then use an antiseptic mouth rinse or wash. The goal is to leave no crumb behind before going to bed.
- STAY OFF ALCOHOL
Alcohol dries out your mouth which then permeates bacteria. Always opt for a non-alcoholic mouthwash if searching for one to purchase.
- FOCUS ON YOUR TONGUE
If you floss and brush yet still have mouth odor, focus on your tongue. The tongue has a lot of surfaces where food particles can enter. While brushing at night, remember to scrape your tongue by using a tongue scraper.
- INCREASE SALIVA
Every time you eat, you increase saliva. Eat more of fruits and vegetables like carrots, oranges or apples before bed. They stimulate saliva flow and automatically clean the teeth and mouth of debris(scattered pieces or remains) while removing stains.
- SLEEP ON ONE SIDE RATHER THAN YOUR BACK
Sleeping on your back would trigger snoring through your mouth at night which would likely increase bad breath. Most snorers sleep with their mouth open; causing dry mouth and bad breath bacteria.
- ALWAYS DRINK WATER BEFORE BED
Dehydration causes bad breath. In other words, a dry mouth and lack of saliva causes odor. Drink enough water daily and right before bed so as to eliminate lingering morsel of food.
- AVOID GARLIC AND ONIONS BEFORE BED
Garlic and onion eaters not only have bad breath but they also have body odor because these foods contain acids that outlast the body for a period of time.
- REDUCE SUGAR CONSUMPTION
When traces of sugar are left in your mouth, it acts as food for bacteria to thrive on, which eventually develops into acid that can contribute to tooth decay and bad breath.
- TAKE MORE OF SUGARLESS MINT
Organic mint is packed with antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties that help get rid of harmful bacteria in the mouth and prevent dental ailments. Taking mint regularly would bring about an outflow of saliva in your mouth thereby clearing any smelly bacteria. Sugarless mint not only freshens breath but reduces cavities.
P.S IF YOUR BAD BREATH STILL DOESN'T GO AWAY AFTER TRYING ALL THE STEPS LISTED ABOVE, GO SEE A DENTIST. SOME DENTAL ISSUES CAN BE CONNECTED TO A HEART DISEASE OR PERHAPS STROKE.
