DAILY HEALTH TIPS (MORNING AND BEFORE BED)

Today, I have decided to focus on different simple ways you can improve your health. It really pays to think about your health but let me ask a question first.
Is being healthy hard?
A friend of mine once said to me, you have to be rich to stay and be healthy but what do you think? Everyone is entitled to their opinions and mine is, no matter where you are or who you are,  you can be healthy and stay healthy. It all depends on YOU!
These tips are for everyone. It's no doubt that when you are wealthy, you take advantage of the resources you have to stay healthy. Pause! I think I just dropped a rhyme there.....*smiles.
But if you know being healthy is important to you too, then consider these practical few steps daily and work your way into healthiness.

IN THE MORNING

  • After you pray, take some time to breathe deep and meditate. Deep breathing improves energy level, slows heart rate, cleans out lungs and reduces anxiety. While meditation, reduces stress, improves concentration, increases happiness and acceptance, slows aging and decreases brain clutter.

How to meditate - you can either sit or lie as comfortable as you want for 2mins. Close your eyes, breathe naturally. Don't try to figure out anything, just relax. Count your breaths and focus on how the body moves.  When you wander, come back.  The goal is to focus and quiet your mind.

  • Drink enough water as you wake up for health's sake. Water would flush out your digestive system by pushing waste through the body and releases accumulated toxins thus improving digestion. It also cleanses your colon or better known as large intestine.

  • Do a little exercise every morning. It gives you energy to start your day and hey, you get to burn calories in the process which is a good thing, right?

  • Don't forget your breakfast even if it's just tea and omelette. It would make your bright as your begin your day but I prefer plant based breakfast like banana, pear and so on. Easier to snack on and no preparation time in case you are running late.

  • Take a walk around your neighborhood for it can boost your mood without you realizing it. If you can, walk the short distance to your office than entering "keke" as we call it in Nigeria or driving. It would save you money and it's another way of exercising.

  • Lemon water is another great way of improving health. Take it along to work and sip on it all day long. A glass of lemon juice contains so many nutrients like calcium, potassium, vitamin c, pectin...need I say more. Make lemon water part of your daily routine in the morning and enjoy it's superb benefits.

BEFORE BED
  • Exercise can help you get a better night rest.

  • Take a shower for it helps you relax and improves your sleep quality. Showering at night helps normalize your body temperature which is vital for a sound sleep.

  • Eat fruits once it's late or close to bed hours. Fruits will help make you sleep better than most foods.

  • Brush your teeth before bed. If you don't, bacteria would build up really fast making you have bad breath and thus putting your dentition at risk.

  • Quite a number of people do this, even me.  We can't seem to go to bed without scrolling through Instagram or Facebook. For some people, it's TV or their laptops. Little do we know that the blue lights emitting from these devices disrupt our sleep cycles. (Will be talking about the sleep cycles on our next blog post). Drop the devices.

  • Water is an absolute before bed. Drinking enough water before bed will keep your hydrated and will make u sleep well.

  • Meditate before bed. It will make you sleep better.  As you meditate, pray along side and say a few mantras if you want. Like Thank God, I am strong, I am enough, I am beautiful and so on.

NB: If you have so much in your mind before bed, try writing them down in a book. It helps clear the mind and you would be able to sleep better. Try it!

Thanks for reading!

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE IN HAUSALAND - THE PROCESS AND RITES

The Hausa are one of the most congested ethnic groups in Africa. They are heterogeneous in nature but culturally homogeneous people. They reside mostly in the Northern part of the country known to them as ''Arewa'' which is translated as Northern Nigeria. They are primarily Muslims while few are Christians. Although a great number of people in this region speak the Hausa language, different tribes among them have their own unique dialects. The Hausa traditional marriage is not as time consuming or expensive like the Yoruba and Igbo traditional marriage rites. Unlike in other culture where you are allowed some kind of freedom with the opposite sex, a Hausa man and woman don't have such freedom and the only thing that will bring about sexual contact between them is marriage. The Na Gani Ina  is the first stage where the groom with his male friends and kinsmen visit the bride's family house to make their intention known. They also go along with gifts. The
