WAYS TO KEEP THE GENITAL CLEAN AND PATHOGEN FREE

The genital is a delicate area which must be properly taken care of if you want to be free from disease-producing agent. We must keep our private part dry and clean as often as we can because micro organisms settle in moist areas. We sweat alot in areas that are covered that is why it is  advisable to wear breathable clothes and underwears.

THE RIGHT WAY TO WASH THE VAGINA.

  • Use plain soap when washing the vagina and not perfumed soap. The vagina cleans itself inside your body with natural vagina secretions called discharge. The vaginal discharge is not always a bad thing. We have healthy discharge and unhealthy discharge. The healthy discharge is white-ish in colour and milky without any foul smell. The unhealthy discharge is yellow-ish in colour with a foul smell and sometimes itchy. Fungi causes the itch and bacteria causes the foul smell.
  • Avoid using douches for douches are meant to wash the vagina and thus distorting the normal vaginal bacteria. It doesn't protect from infections rather increases risk of getting an infection.
  • Avoid scented wipes or vaginal deodorants for it distorts the vagina's healthy natural balance. If God had intended the vagina to smell like roses, he would have done that. Washing with plain soap and water is all you need for your vaginal to be healthy daily. If you feel your vagina has an odor, stop covering it up with perfumes and go see a doctor for it could be an infection.

KEEPING IT CLEAN
  • After using the toilet, clean the vagina from front to back not back to front.
  • Don't share underwear or anything that touches your genitals like sanitary objects e.g shaving stick.
  • Sun dry your undies and wash with warm water to kill germs.
  • Always clean the toilet seat and disinfect the bowl before use especially when you share toilet.
  • Avoid pre-marital sex for it would save you from STD'S or worse.
  • Don't sleep with your undies so the genitals can breathe.
  • Avoid wearing tight pants or tight trousers. It makes the vagina sweat more and blocks out air which increases risk of bacteria.

VAGINAL INFECTIONS
Burning, itching and foul smell are just some of the common symptoms of vaginal infections. Treatments vary by condition so its important to know which type of infection you have.
There are many vaginal infections but the common ones are;

  1. Yeast Infections - Caused by fungus known as candida. Candida live naturally in the body in small numbers but grow in number via warm, moist environments thus causing an infection. That's why it is ideal to wear breathable undies. Yeast infection causes itching and thick discharge. Men can also get infected if they have sexual intercourse with women who are infected.
  2. Bacterial Vaginosis - You get infected with this when you have sexual intercourse with more than one partner and by douching.
  3. Trichomonas - Is a sexually transmitted disease passed from partner to partner and some women who have this infection experience pain during urination.

TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE IN HAUSALAND - THE PROCESS AND RITES

The Hausa are one of the most congested ethnic groups in Africa. They are heterogeneous in nature but culturally homogeneous people. They reside mostly in the Northern part of the country known to them as ''Arewa'' which is translated as Northern Nigeria. They are primarily Muslims while few are Christians. Although a great number of people in this region speak the Hausa language, different tribes among them have their own unique dialects. The Hausa traditional marriage is not as time consuming or expensive like the Yoruba and Igbo traditional marriage rites.
