Most of us fall victim when it comes to sharing personal hygiene products with our partners, family members and friends but little do we know that in so doing, we put ourselves in harms way. Although its sometimes inevitable but remember, it can cause severe skin and health problems. Below are some personal items you should never share with anyone. Mind you, this article is not obligatory. If you care about your health, be mindful of what you share. You have every right to say NO!
Body Sponge
They never dry out completely so its easy for germs from dead skills cells to grow and multiply in them. When using a contaminated sponge, it could cause infections like acne, ringworms, nail fungus etc. Bottom line, never share what is usually damp.
Shaving Stick
Just because of that stubble, we end up using any available stick so we appear perfect for the date. Don't ever use someone else's shaving stick for its not worth it, no matter what.
The razor collects bacteria so the more people using it, the more risk for infection. Its impossible to know a shaving stick that is infected because so many people carry harmful bacteria without getting sick.
Nail Clippers
No matter how clean your nails are, sharing clippers pose a risk because its used where fungus hide out like on our toes, soles and fingers. By sharing this, you can easily transmit fungus so keep them to your self.
Tweezers
Don't pluck an ingrown hair or unwanted hair with someone else's tweezers, you might end up piercing your skin thus transferring blood- borne diseases. Its uncommon but very possible to transfer HIV by using infected tweezers. Steep in alcohol if you find any trace of blood.
Bathing Soap
After each use, the soap gets covered in organisms from the skin or disease-producing agents called pathogens(virus/bacteria) or other micro-organisms people carry without getting ill. Its less harmful for partners to share this because their bodies are pretty much acclimated to each other. When the soap sits in a wet dish, it becomes worse because bacteria, fungi or virus grow more through moisture and subsequently could cause a serious infection or illness.
Towels
Bacteria or fungus cause towels to smell. Towels can be a breeding ground for germs especially when kept in a damp bathroom. Infected towels can transmit fungal infections on the skin or acne causing bacteria. Its always best to wash after four use.
Hair Clipper/Trimmer
Dirty trimmers can transfer the bacteria from another person's face onto the skin therefore risking for acne except its sanitized.
Deodorants/Antiperspirants
First of, its irritating to share something that's been all up in another persons armpit. Its easy for underarm germs to grow on the stick. If you have to share, clean with alcohol-soaked cotton ball first.
Toothbrush
Even if you rinse the toothbrush off after using, there are still bacteria on the bristles and it will grow overnight. Your mouth germs won't make you sick but germs from someone else's mouth can transmit bacteria or virus. Blood-borne diseases can be transmitted if who you are sharing with have poor dental hygiene.
Lipstick/balm
Bacteria can transfer through the membranes of your mouth into the bloodstream. Therefore, the lips is ready to absorb anything you apply on the mouth including germs.
Earrings
You can transmit blood-borne infections by sharing earring. If you share, remember to sanitize them before use.
Earphones
