RECOMMENDED FRUITS FOR BLOOD TYPE A.
Eat fruits alone or one hour apart from any other foods-best time is in the morning on an empty stomach. Eat fruits raw to preserve their full benefits.
Fruits are generally high in fiber, water, vitamin C and some high sugars. Regular consumption of fruit is associated with reduced risks of cancer, cardiovascular disease especially coronary heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts and some of the functional declines associated with aging.
Diets that include sufficient potassium from fruits and vegetables also help reduce the chance of developing kidney stones and may help reduce the effects of bone loss.
Eat vitamin-C rich fruits such as grapefruit or kiwi containing an important antioxidant for stomach cancer prevention.
The following fruits are nutrient-dense powerhouses with the most disease fighting potential for your type.
Cherries- Low calories, rich in antioxidants. Sour cherries contain more anthocyanin than any other fruit. Anthocyanin may help reduce inflammation and ease the pain of arthritis and gout.
Cranberries- Low calories, rich in antioxidants. Cranberries are antibacterial. Studies have shown they can treat and prevent urinary tract infections. Recent research has linked cranberries to the prevention of kidney stones and ulcers.
Dried figs- A high fiber, rich source of potassium, calcium and iron. Figs may help reduce the risk of heart disease.
Grape fruit- Has positive effects on the type A stomach, exhibiting alkaline tendencies after digestion. Pink grapefruit, a great source of vitamin A contains lycopene and flavonoids which may help protect against some cancers. It also contains pectin, a soluble fiber that may help lower cholesterol.
Lemons- Help aid digestion and clear mucus from type A system.
Pineapple- Contains a natural enzyme called bromelain which breaks down protein and helps aid digestion. Bromelain may help prevent blood clots, inhibit growth of cancer cells and speed wound healing.
Prunes- Are great source of vitamin A and mineral boron. Boron may help prevent osteoporosis. Prunes also impart a mild laxative effect due to their high content of natural sugar, sorbitol.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid bananas, which have lectin that interferes with type A digestion.
Avoid bittermelon, honeydew melon, mango and papaya. Although they contain a digestive enzyme good for other blood types, it doesn't work in the type A digestive tract.
